Ostia Antica, the old Roman Port town
When in Rome discover the perfect place to learn the ancient Romans life.
Today we will discover an old Roman town. On our Family Fun Day excursion to Ostia, or better ‘river mouth’ is located only 17 miles away from the center of Rome, right by the Tiber river and today only a couple of miles away from the Mediterranean sea.
This port town used to be right by the water and was therefore an incredibly important strategic point for the Romans, their legions and naval fleets. Ostia depended on Rome for many centuries.
This is a magnificent journey through time as you can still flavor the grandeur of the Roman empire….we will see incredibly preserved Roman Baths….discover how the Romans washed their clothes, where they made their bread , where they went to eat and what they did for fun….Are you curious? In the afternoon we could stop by the beach for a dip into the Mediterranean Sea!
A magnificent journey through time!
